Ndamukong Suh not fined for roughing the passer

Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been sick and missing practice this week, but here’s something that will make him feel better: The NFL didn’t fine him for his roughing the passer penalty on Sunday.

Suh was penalized for a hard shot on Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown after McCown had thrown the ball. It was a good call and clearly roughing the passer, as Suh hit McCown late and gave him a forearm to the chin, so it’s surprising that Suh wasn’t penalized.

Although Suh has a reputation as a dirty player, this year he has continued playing at a high level while mostly avoiding penalties and cheap shots. The personal foul on Sunday was a rare exception.

Lions coach Jim Caldwell said today that he isn’t sure if Suh will be able to play on Sunday against the Vikings as he battles an illness. If he can’t go on Sunday, then it’s possible that Suh, an impending free agent, has played his last home game as a Lion. At least he wasn’t fined for it.
