DeWayne Walker has quit his job as the head coach at New Mexico State to join the staff of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
According to multiple reports, Walker will be the defensive backs coach in Jacksonville. The Jaguars haven’t announced the move, but New Mexico State officials have confirmed that Walker informed them he’s leaving.
“He is going to resign and accept a position in Jacksonville,” New Mexico State Athletics Director McKinley Boston told the Las Cruces Sun-News. “It’s official.”
Walker is leaving New Mexico State less than two weeks before National Signing Day, but as everyone who follows college football knows, coaches routinely ask teenage boys to commit the next four or five years of their lives to a school, knowing full well that they’ll ditch that school just as soon as someone else offers them a better job.
And Walker, who went 1-11 as head coach at New Mexico State last year, apparently views the Jaguars defensive backs coach position as a better job.
