Broncos right guard Quinn Meinerz celebrated with Jaylen Waddle after the wide receiver’s 2-point conversion on Sunday. He playfully “waddled” over to offer his congratulations, and the teammates then pantomimed a dice roll.
“I got fined,’’ Meinerz told Mike Klis of 9News. “We were playing Yahtzee. They didn’t like we were playing Yahtzee.”
In 2017, the NFL announced that it had no problem with celebratory dice rolls. A spokesperson at the time said the league “isn’t in a place to determine” whether players were referring to Yahtzee or backgammon.
The league fined Meinerz $14,926 for what the league deemed an illegal celebration. It seems likely the NFL fined Waddle the same amount.
Meinerz said he will appeal.
After the Broncos’ second 2-point conversion, Meinerz lifted Pat Bryant II off the ground with a two-arm, elbow-locked shiver.
“It’s fun to be back to who I am and I can breathe. I can see, I’m feeling good about life and where things are at,’’ Meinerz said. “So when I have the opportunity to use more of that energy to go celebrate with my teammates, why not? It’s hard to score, have fun with it.”
