The NFL and NFLPA have agreed to push back Ray Rice’s appeal for his indefinite suspension.
But the union wants to have its own look at the case.
The NFLPA just sent out a release saying they’ve retained their own counsel “to conduct our investigation surrounding the due process, discipline, facts and conduct of the NFL League Office and Baltimore Ravens resulting in the indefinite suspension of Ray Rice.
The union hired former federal prosecutor Richard Craig Smith to do their digging.
“As a former federal prosecutor, Mr. Smith brings tremendous experience and expertise,” they said. “The NFLPA will request that the NFL and the Baltimore Ravens cooperate in the interest of transparency. This investigation will run parallel to Rice’s appeal.”
There are now dueling investigations happening, and we’ll see if they come up with the same conclusions, and how that impacts the league’s changing courses on Rice’s punishment.
