Lions first round pick Nick Fairley saw a specialist about his foot, and what he heard wasn’t good.

The Lions announced Wednesday that Fairley underwent surgery Wednesday and will miss a “significant portion” of training camp. Detroit hates to give out injury info, so it’s a fair bet that a “significant portion” is a best case scenario.

“He was in great condition for camp & made a good impression the first couple days. Look forward to getting him back as soon as he’s healthy,” Jim Schwartz said via Twitter.

It’s a big blow to Fairley, but the defensive line is Detroit’s deepest group. They can survive just fine without him.
