Nick Sirianni on 49ers being favored: This city plays the underdog role well

Heading into the weekend, the 10-1 Eagles are 2.5-point home underdogs to the 8-3 49ers for the rematch of last year’s NFC Championship Game.

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Wednesday that “doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, but I don’t really know how that stuff works.”

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about it on Wednesday, too, and effectively said he’s just fine with it.

“Not going to get wrapped into what anybody else thinks of us, whether that’s another team, whether that’s whoever makes the spreads, or anything like that,” Sirianni said at his press conference. “We just worry about going to work for ourselves. I think going into the last year and the year before, no one really thought we would be any good. I think it’s OK to be the underdog.”

“I said on the radio the other day, before I ever stepped foot in the city all I knew about this city was Rocky versus Apollo Creed and the city plays the underdog well.”

Not that the Eagles are a team that seems to need any extra motivation, but it seems like Sirianni has a pretty solid message for his club as it gets ready for one of the most anticipated games of 2023.
