Owners to meet in August for further L.A. discussion

At their May meetings, NFL owners heard updates about the two stadium projects in Los Angeles as well as the efforts by San Diego, St. Louis and Oakland to hold onto teams and they’ll get another chance to assess the situations in August.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the league’s owners will meet in Chicago on August 11 for further discussion of the matters related to a team moving to Los Angeles. Per the report, there isn’t expected to be any major news coming out of the meeting. It is set up to be “used as a timeline and process update” that the NFL believes is necessary before the next scheduled league meeting in October given the interest from three teams in moving to L.A.

The Rams are one of those teams and a couple of recent developments further illustrate their desire to head back to the area they once called home. The team has altered their contracts with contractors and advertisers in St. Louis to end in February rather than May, which coincides with the league’s window to apply for relocation. The grandstands at Hollywood Park race track in Inglewood, which is the site of the Rams’ proposed stadium, were also demolished recently.

The other teams sniffing around a move are the Chargers and Raiders, who are proposing a joint stadium in Carson. The Chargers are talking with San Diego officials about staying put, but the Raiders and Oakland haven’t made much progress toward a deal that would secure the team’s future in the East Bay.
