Packers defensive lineman Mike Neal, who was suspended for the first four games of the season for what he says was a positive test for the prescription drug Adderall, is now back in Green Bay. And Phillip Merling is on the way out.
The Packers confirmed today that they have activated Neal from the reserve/suspended list to the 53-man roster, and to make room for Neal on the roster they’ve cut Merling.
Neal has played in nine games in two seasons since the Packers took him in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft and hasn’t been much of a factor.
The Dolphins selected Merling with the first pick of the second round of the 2008 NFL draft, but he was a disappointment, with just 3.5 sacks in four seasons. This year he signed with the Packers and played in three games, but now he’s gone from Green Bay, and this could be the end of the line for a major draft disappointment.
