The Packers are retaining the quarterback who helped keep them in the NFC North race with Aaron Rodgers sidelined last season.
The club has reached a contract agreement with Matt Flynn, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported Tuesday.
Flynn’s pact with Green Bay comes after the Giants reportedly had shown interest in the seventh-year quarterback from LSU.
Flynn played five games for the Packers in 2013, throwing for 1,146 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions on 102-of-166 passing. While the Packers were just 2-2-1 in games in which he played, those two wins were just enough for Green Bay to stay in range of the division title, which the club captured in Rodgers’ return in Week 17 at Chicago.
Flynn’s best NFL form has been with the the Packers, who drafted him in the seventh round in 2008. Now, he’s back to fill a role he’s shown he can handle: the backup who can ably lead an offense when pressed into service for short periods of time.
With Flynn returning, Scott Tolzien could figure as the Packers’ No. 3 quarterback.
