The details are still sketchy and we’ve yet to see the video, but Packers safety Nick Collins reportedly got into some sort of an altercation with fans following Monday night’s loss to the Bears in Chicago.
According to FOX 6 in Milwaukee, Collins was “provoked by a Bears fan,” and Collins threw an object at the fan -- possibly a roll of tape. Collins reportedly was restrained by Packers receiver Donald Driver.
In the locker room, Collins said that the fan used a racial epithet, but Collins apologized to “all fans” for his conduct.
The incident was a fitting conclusion to a night in which the Packers officially racked up a franchise-high 18 penalties and made various other mistakes and misjudgments that delivered victory to Chicago in a game that Green Bay should have won.
“I think we lost our composure out there,” Collins said after the game.
In Collins’ case, the ultimate sanction could be more than the 15-yard penalty called against him during the loss for unnecessary roughness.
