Panthers announce first round of cuts

The Carolina Panthers trimmed their roster by eight players Sunday, most notably veteran offensive tackle Tony Hills.

Hills, 30, signed with the Panthers at the beginning of camp.

Also waived rookie wide receivers Paul Browning and Avius Capers, punter Matt Wile, tight end Dallas Walker, fullback Lee Ward, defensive end Steve Miller and linebacker Kevin Reddick.

Rosters must be cut to 75 by Tuesday. All 32 teams finish the preseason Thursday and must cut their rosters to the regular-season size of 53 by Saturday Sept. 5.
