The Panthers have scrambled at times to find offensive linemen to plug into their lineup over the last couple of years, which should have offered 2013 fourth-round pick Edmund Kugbila a chance or two to prove his worth at the NFL level.
Kugbila couldn’t overcome injuries, however, and his Panthers career has come to an end without him seeing action in a single regular season game. The Panthers announced Wednesday that they have waived Kugbila, who has barely practiced with the team as a result of the hamstring, knee and spinal cord injuries that have forced him to injured reserve in each of the last two years.
Kugbila was one of five players that the Panthers took in the 2013 draft, which was General Manager Dave Gettleman’s first in Carolina. Kugbila is the second player to leave the Panthers, joining traded running back Kenjon Barner.
The Panthers announced that they have signed defensive tackle Chas Alecxih after Alecxih tried out for the team at their rookie minicamp. He’s spent time with the Chargers and Dolphins and, like Kugbila, has not appeared in a regular season game.
