The Patriots made a transaction involving a familiar name Friday in signing running back Joey Iosefa.
Iosefa spent most of last year on the team’s practice squad. He was promoted in December and kept on the offseason roster until recently. The Patriots released Iosefa earlier this month when they signed a bunch of draft picks and undrafted rookies.
Per ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Iosefa turned down the chance to work out for another team because he wanted to stay with the Patriots when a roster spot opened. He fills the spot created by the release of linebacker Tony Steward earlier this week.
An undrafted rookie last season who broke into the league with the Buccaneers, Iosefa played in two games for the Patriots and carried the ball 15 times for 51 yards. He’s listed at 245 pounds and is seen as a potential short-yardage back and special teams player.
