A Patriots sixth-round draft pick has failed to make the 53-man roster.

Kamu Grugier-Hill was cut by New England today, Mike Reiss of ESPN reports.

A safety out of Eastern Illinois, Grugier-Hill wasn’t expected to be an immediate contributor on the Patriots’ defense. But the decision to cut him is still a surprise because he’s a good special teams player who could have contributed there as a rookie.

Grugier-Hill will now be subject to waivers and could get picked up by some team looking for immediate special teams help. If he clears waivers, he’d be a candidate for the Patriots’ practice squad.
