Patriots coach Bill Belichick is trying to make this week as normal as possible, but he recognizes that the Super Bowl is a different sort of game. With a different halftime.

That’s why Belichick had a 31-minute break during Wednesday’s practice to simulate halftime on Sunday.

“Coach Belichick is a genius,” said Patriots running back Stevan Ridley told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “He’s special. That was coach Belichick doing his thing.”

We can’t recall a team ever doing this at the Super Bowl. The Patriots practiced an hour, took the break, then went back to work. They even had Belichick speak to them as if it was halftime. (We’re not sure who was winning this simulated game.)

“That’s coach doing what he always does, practicing us like it’s a reality,” said Patriots running back Benjarvus Green-Ellis. “But a lot of guys are going to have to get their body used to that -- stopping and starting again.”
