Peter Warrick Wants To Play In The NFL Again

Where’s Peter Warrick? Well, the former Cincinnati Bengals and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Peter Warrick is toiling in relative obscurity for the Indoor Football League’s Bloomington Extreme in Illinois. The IFL is an eight-man football league. “When I stop loving it, I’ll stop playing,” Warrick told David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune. After catching 275 career passes for 2,991 yards and 18 touchdowns during an NFL career that halted in 2005, Warrick hasn’t lost his ambition for the NFL even though it’s probably a long shot due to a history of knee problems that would reportedly make it tough for him to pass a physical. Warrick has had four surgeries to repair his right anterior cruciate ligament. Earning $200 per game and $250 if the team wins, Warrick has registered 53 receptions for 574 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Extreme. He’s not in it for the money, though, and doesn’t cash his checks from the IFL franchise. Per the report, Warrick earned over $10 million in the NFL and isn’t having any financial problems. Warrick, 32, would like to play for the Chicago Bears, but his knee problems are a big obstacle. The Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League released Warrick in 2008. When the former Florida State star tried out for NFL teams last season, though, it was basically a thanks-for-coming situation. “I could pass one now because Dr. [James] Andrews told me just to keep my quad strong and there will be some days when you’re 100 percent and some days when you’re not,” Warrick said. “It has some arthritis. I just need somebody who trusts and believes in me to say we know Pete’s knee is not 100 percent but we can work with it to get to 100 percent because he can help us out.” Despite the knee problems, Warrick hasn’t given up on his dreams of playing again. “Let’s see, Plaxico [Burress] and Devin Hester out wide and Pete [Warrick] in the slot . . .now that would be something in Chicago,” Warrick said. “I could be in that slot. That would be fun.” Warrick is also interested in playing in the United Football League, which is entering its inaugural season.
