Usually the only involvement mayors have when local teams are in the postseason are bets for local delicacies with mayors of the opposing city. Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is going a little bit further to show his support of the Steelers. He’s filed a Verified Petition for a Name Change with civil court, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and wants to be known as Mayor Steelerstahl. “On behalf of the Steelers Nation, I’ve decided to remove the word ‘Ravens’ from my name just like the Steelers will remove them from the AFC Championship,” he said. In German, “stahl” means steel, which makes Steelerstahl a tough name to top when it comes to showing your devotion to Pittsburgh’s football club. The civil court doesn’t expect that they’ll actually file the petition, which wasn’t completed and came without the $108 fee required to put a name change in motion. Whatever his name winds up being, the show of love for the Steelers may help him in May when he’ll potentially face three Democratic rivals in a primary election. Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon hasn’t had any response, but after being indicted on 12 counts of felony theft, perjury, fraud and misconduct in office a name change could be just what the doctor ordered.
