When the Dolphins moved on from Tua Tagovailoa during the offseason, it briefly appeared second-year quarterback Quinn Ewers might have a chance to start in 2026.
Ewers, after all, had started Miami’s last three games, helping pilot the club to a victory over the Buccaneers in Week 17.
But then the Dolphins signed Malik Willis early in free agency, with the implication being that Willis would be the starter.
That was no matter to the former Texas QB.
“I was excited to get to work with him, honestly,” Ewers said on Monday of his reaction to Miami signing Willis, via David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “I think he had a great end of the year last year with Green Bay, and to get a guy like that who has played good in some big-time games is only going to help me in the long run.”
So even as Ewers would like to have a shot at being QB1, he’s committed to being as helpful as possible for Willis and every other quarterback on the roster.
“In the quarterback room, the respective goal is to be playing on Sundays, but I think that’s the cool part about our room,” Ewers said. “We all want to be playing, but at the end of the day, I think we all want what’s best for the Dolphins. So, we’re all competing for the same spot, but we’re all competing for the same goal. Whoever’s out there, no matter who it is, anybody’s going to get the support.”
In his four total appearances, Ewers completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 622 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions as a rookie in 2025.
