Raheem Morris rightfully took a lot of heat for hiring two coordinators that didn’t last even one season with him as a head coach.

He also deserves praise for hiring the right defensive coordinator as a replacement: Raheem Morris.

The team dramatically improved its defensive performance when he started calling plays in 2009, and the success carried over to 2010. The defense finish in the top ten in points allowed.

“I enjoy it so much,’' Morris said via Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune. “To game plan against great minds like Sean Payton an Mike Mularkey – those things are exciting for me. To go up against some of the great quarterbacks in our league as defensive coordinator and be able to dictate a defensive mentality is fun.”

Morris joked about taking on the offense and the special teams next. But he made it clear he has no plans to give up playcalling duties on defense anytime soon. At least until he finds the next Raheem Morris.

“When you get a guy that you believe is better than you and you put him in position to attack people,’' Morris said. “That’s when you make a change.’'
