Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak has declined to say whether rookie Fernando Mendoza or Aidan O’Connell will back up starting quarterback Kirk Cousins. But the team’s depth chart says it’s Mendoza.
The Raiders released their first depth chart of the regular season today, and it has Mendoza as QB2 and O’Connell as QB3.
The first overall pick in the draft usually starts from Week 1 of his rookie year, but in Mendoza’s case the Raiders are planning to bring him along slowly and let him learn behind Cousins. If Cousins goes down, however, it appears that Mendoza will be the next man up.
The Raiders are 3.5-point favorites at home against the Dolphins in Sunday’s opener.
