Teams looking for a punter in free agency this offseason will have to consider options other than Marquette King.
The Raiders announced Monday that King has agreed to a long-term extension with the team. King was set to become an unrestricted free agent next week and the team did not announce any terms of the deal. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports it is a five-year contract worth $16.5 million with $7.75 million in guarantees.
King has spent the last three years as the punter in Oakland and is coming off a season that saw him post a 40.7 yard net average on punts. He dropped 40 of his 83 punts inside the 20-yard-line, which was good for second in the league behind Johnny Hekker of the Rams. King, who signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and spent the year on injured reserve, also led the league in gross punting average in 2013.
With King remaining under contract and the retirements of Justin Tuck and Charles Woodson, the Raiders have 10 impending unrestricted free agents.
