The 49ers and Raiders quit playing every year in the preseason after a series of incidents between their fans. This Sunday, they meet in the regular season for the first time since suspending their annual exhibition contest.

The Raiders say they will be ready for any potential problems.

“The Raiders, Oakland Police Department, Alameda County Sheriff, and O.co Coliseum Management have worked together to create an increased law enforcement and security presence at Sunday’s game,” the team said in a statement, via Scott Bair of CSNBayArea.com. “This includes a substantial increase in uniformed law enforcement officers, additional undercover officers, and increased private security staff. Public safety is a top priority for the Raiders, O.co Coliseum, and local law enforcement and all are working diligently to ensure that fans enjoy a safe and secure environment.”

In the regular season, the Raiders and 49ers have played only three prior times in Oakland -- 1970, 1979, and 2002. The series is tied at six, but the Raiders last won in 2000, a 34-28 overtime victory at Candlestick Park.
