The Ravens re-signed cornerback Jumal Rolle as an exclusive rights free agent earlier this offseason, but he’s not going to be part of their secondary during the 2016 season.
Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports that Rolle will miss the season after tearing his Achilles tendon in a recent workout.
Rolle was signed to the Ravens practice squad last November and played in one game for them in December. He opened the year with the Texans and saw action in eight games before being waived. Rolle also played 10 games for Houston in 2014, recording 19 tackles and making three interceptions.
Rolle, who has also spent time with the Packers, Bills and Saints, was going to be part of the competition for depth spots at cornerback in Baltimore this year. Jimmy Smith, one of the Ravens’ projected starters, is recovering from foot surgery and is expected to be ready in time for camp. The team also has Shareece Wright, Kyle Arrington, Will Davis and a pair of 2016 draft picks -- Tavon Young and Maurice Canady -- on the depth chart.
