We’ve spent a lot of time reporting on Dez Bryant’s lawsuits and the wild story behind Aqib Talib’s arrest.
That makes passing along this story about Ravens safety Hakuri Nakamura all the more enjoyable.
A few weeks back, we mentioned that Nakamura was planning a charity event to raise money for the Japan relief effort. The event went off in Aberdeen, Maryland on Saturday and was a huge hit.
Jamison Henley of the Baltimore Sun writes that roughly 3,000 fans turned out to get autographs from Ravens players and donate money. More than $60,000 was raised.
“This just shows how much people truly care,” Nakamura said. “It’s not about football players looking to give autographs. This is for something that’s very special. We’re trying to make an impact on a society ‘that’s in grave danger of nuclear issues and with lasting effects of a tsunami. This is what we’re here for. And the fact that these people are here to support that is awesome.”
It’s a terrific that Nakamura organized the event and even better that the Baltimore area supported the effort so much.
