Last year, failed top-five draft pick Mike Williams made a heroic return to the NFL, transforming his body, winning a roster spot after three years out of football, and ultimately starting eight games for the Redskins.
This year, Williams’ career has hit a major obstacle.
Jason Reid of the Washington Post reports that Williams will miss the entire 2010 season, due to blood clots near his heart.
Per Reid, Williams recently was hospitalized because of the condition. He has since been released, but the team is concerned that the ailment could be career-threatening.
Williams, the fourth pick in the 2002 draft, was expected to be a key member of the team’s offensive line this year. He had been serving as a mentor to tackle Trent Williams, the fourth pick in this year’s draft.
