Todd Bowles will not remain with the Dolphins organization in 2012.

New Dolphins coach Joe Philbin has decided not to retain Bowles, according to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Bowles was the secondary coach (and interim head coach) in Miami last year, and was a finalist for the team’s head coaching job.

A favorite of management, it was believed that Miami’s front office supported Bowles getting the team’s defensive coordinator job. Philbin has discretion to hire his own staff, however, and will go in another direction.

Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, who was also a finalist for the job, believed that his unwillingness to retain Bowles cost McCoy the head coaching job. That clearly wasn’t the case.
