The list of potential landing spots for free-agent wide receiver Steve Breaston appears to have shrunk.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns are not expected to sign Breaston, who is expected to meet with AFC North rival Pittsburgh on Thursday.
With special-teams stalwart Josh Cribbs and frequent starter Mohamed Massaquoi slated to be unrestricted free agents, the Browns may need to bolster their wide receiver depth this offseason, and the 29-year-old Breaston seemed a logical candidate to add another veteran presence at a position where Cleveland is young. However, it appears Breaston, released by Kansas City earlier in February, will have to resume his NFL career elsewhere.
The Steelers could have their own depth issues at wide receiver if Mike Wallace departs in free agency. While Breaston isn’t a field-stretching threat in Wallace’s class, Breaston would help strengthen the Steelers’ hand at a key position.
