The Chargers have lost center Nick Hardwick for the season because of a neck injury suffered early in Monday night’s loss to the Cardinals, leaving them with a big hole in the middle of their offensive line.
Rich Ohrnberger is the next man up on the depth chart, but his promotion leaves them with a vacancy on the next rung of the depth chart. It looks like they’ll fill it with former Steelers and Bills offensive lineman Doug Legursky.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Chargers plan to sign Legursky to their 53-man roster. Legursky made 11 starts for the Bills last season after spending four years on Pittsburgh’s line. His versatility is his biggest asset after spending time at both guard and center over the course of his career and the Chargers could use that insurance with Ohrnberger getting bumped up to the first team.
The Chargers also have 2014 third-round pick Chris Watt as a reserve on the interior of the offensive line as they move forward without Hardwick.
UPDATE 1:49 p.m. ET: The Chargers have announced the signing.
