REPORT: FAVRE ‘RESENTED’ IN LOCKER ROOM

New York Jets quarterback Brett Favre didn’t attempt to ingratiate himself with his teammates in the locker room this season, according to a Newsday report quoting an anonymous Jets player who described Favre as an aloof and distant figure. “There was a lot of resentment in the room about him,” the unnamed player said, according to Arthur Staple of Newsday. “He never socialized with us, never went to dinner with anyone.” The player said that Favre, 39, didn’t hang out with his teammates in the locker room, preferring to isolate himself in an office specially assigned to him located close to the equipment room. Earlier in the week, Jets safety Kerry Rhodes weighed in on Favre: “If he’s dedicated and he wants to come back and do this, and do it the right way . . . and be here when we’re here in training camp and the minicamps and working out with us . . . then I’m fine with it. But don’t come back if it’s going to be halfhearted or he doesn’t want to put the time in with us.” Also, running back Thomas Jones, the team’s Most Valuable Player, blasted Favre in a radio interview, suggesting that Favre should have been benched due to his various untimely interceptions. Bottom line: It doesn’t exactly take a genius to see that a pretty clear picture is emerging that Favre will have some fence-mending to do with the Jets’ rank-and-file players if he chooses to return for next season. And the mere fact that such an effort will be required could prompt him to retire (again), or to perhaps try to finagle his way into yet another franchise for 2009.
