Giants running back David Wilson failed to get the green light to resume his 2013 season earlier this week and it looks like that medical decision will keep him stuck at the same red light for the rest of the year.
Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that the Giants will place Wilson on injured reserve on Thursday afternoon to make room on the roster for Andre Brown’s return from injured reserve. Wilson injured his neck a month ago and there have been some dire reports about his long-term outlook, although word earlier this week was that he had made some progress over the last few weeks.
The Giants have until 4 p.m. ET to add Brown to the active roster and Orr reports that they’ll take all of that time in order to make sure nothing happens at practice on Thursday to force them to move in a different direction.
If Wilson’s season is over, it will end with 146 yards on 44 carries and very little in the way of confirmation that Wilson can be the team’s feature back moving forward. His issues with fumbling remained in the picture and the Giants were quick to look elsewhere in the running game even before Wilson got hurt.
