Defensive end Greg Hardy and his agent Drew Rosenhaus have let NFL teams know that Hardy is undergoing counseling and other treatment to curb the bad behavior that has helped keep him unemployed since the end of last season.
Ed Werder of ESPN spoke to several NFL General Managers about the effort to show that Hardy is trying to being a better person and reports that most said the approach was the right one to take given Hardy’s history. It doesn’t look like it is going to be enough to get Hardy a new job, however.
Werder found that the “prevailing opinion” among those he spoke to is that no one wants Hardy. One General Manager told Werder that he thinks teams will “err on the safe side” and others wondered whether Hardy is truly committed to being on right track or if it is just for the sake of appearances.
Werder didn’t talk to all 32 teams and it will only take one to have a different take for any “prevailing opinion” of a smaller group to be proven incorrect. It may take an injury or other bad turn for that team to surface, but there’s still a lot of time before the 2016 season gets underway.
