New England Patriots fourth-round pick Malcolm Mitchell made an abrupt exit from Thursday night’s preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints.
After securing his fourth catch of the night, Mitchell’s left arm bent in a way it should not. He quickly was escorted to the locker room for further evaluation.
According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, Mitchell suffered a dislocated elbow on the play. The initial timeline on the injury suggests that Mitchell could return from the injury in approximately four weeks.
Mitchell gained 55 yards on his four catches against the Saints in a noteworthy debut. A four-week prognosis could give the Patriots the flexibility to keep Mitchell on the roster and not make a move to injured reserve since he’ll be back in a month.
