The Patriots offense found itself in time to rally back from a 17-3 hole and beat the Dolphins 27-17 on Sunday.

It looks like at least their next few encore performances will take place without right tackle Sebastian Vollmer in the lineup. Vollmer left Sunday’s game on a cart with a right leg injury and Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reports that Vollmer will have surgery on the leg.

There’s no word on whether or not Vollmer will miss the rest of the season, but he should be sidelined for several weeks before returning to the fold. The Patriots have already used their injured reserve/return spot on running back Shane Vereen, so Vollmer would have to remain on the 53-man roster to have any hope of playing again this year.

Vollmer’s injury will put some of the incentives in the contract he signed before the season at risk. He is set to make $750,000 if he plays 90 percent of the team’s offensive snaps, something that seems impossible now.

Marcus Cannon will likely take over for Vollmer in the starting lineup.
