Former Baylor defensive lineman and draft-eligible prospect Shawn Oakman is reportedly being investigated on an allegation of sexual assault.
According to Tommy Witherspoon of the Waco Tribune-Herald, Waco police are investigating a Baylor player they elected not to name because no arrests have been made. However, Paul Catalina of 1660 ESPN in Waco reported the player in question is Oakman.
Oakman’s agent, Kennard McGuire, released a statement to David Smoak of 1660 ESPN.
“While we are aware that there appears to be the beginning of an investigation, no charges have been filed and we are cooperating in this investigation”
Per the Waco Tribune-Herald, a police affidavit seeking a search warrant for Oakman’s residence said the victim alleged she met Oakman at a nightclub and returned home with him. Upon arrival, Oakman allegedly forced her into a bathroom, forcefully removed her clothes, took her back into the bedroom and assaulted her.
Oakman told police that the acts were consensual.
Oakman is thought to be a possible Top 100 selection in the draft later this month.
It’s worth emphasizing again that Oakman has yet to be charged or arrested for anything regarding the alleged incident. It’s not a good look for Baylor though, who has had two former players convicted of sexual assaults in the past couple years.
