The Jets and Giants are both hurting after suffering beatdowns on Sunday.
With both teams on the edge of the playoffs, you wouldn’t think there could be any extra motivation for their matchup Saturday, but Rex Ryan says that isn’t true.
It’s almost like Ryan is a hype man looking to sell tickets.
“It’s going to be ridiculous. You know it’s going to bet . . . that’s a war,” Ryan said after the Jets’ loss. “Whoever loses is probably out, and the fact is that we’re both fighting for our playoff lives. But to say that there won’t be any extra incentive is not right.”
“I mean obviously, there’s going to be extra incentive, extra motivation. You go to the same restaurants, you go to the . . . whatever, guys date the same girls, I don’t know.”
Yes. Whoever wins Saturday gets the girl. We’re not so sure about the playoff spot. It’s very conceivable to imagine the Jets or Giants losing on Saturday, and still having a chance to make the playoffs in the final week.
But don’t tell that to Ryan, who has never been great on playoff scenarios. To Ryan, this week is as much about the playoffs as owning the back page of the paper.
“You want to own your town, you got to win that game,” Ryan said.
The Jets’ first goal this year was owning the AFC East. For now, he’s aiming lower again.
