Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III said earlier this week that he’s still thinking about the playoffs.
Thanks to his performance on Sunday, the Redskins can still harbor hopes of the postseason as well. At 4-6, they aren’t particularly bright hopes but a few more games like the one Griffin turned in against the Eagles in a 31-6 win keeps the flame flickering.
Griffin completed 14-of-15 passes on the day and threw four touchdown passes to lead the Redskins to the rout. Two of them will be on highlight reels -- a 49-yarder to Aldrick Robinson after faking an end around and he followed that one with a 61-yard strike to Santana Moss, who caught the ball in between two Eagles defenders and over safety Kurt Coleman -- and two were more routine. His only incompletion came with about 2:30 left to play in the first half, a toss to Josh Morgan that was just about the only moment Griffin failed to impress on Sunday.
The game plan seemed to offer fewer chances for Griffin to keep the ball, but he still wound up with 84 rushing yards thanks to some scrambles against an Eagles defense that didn’t employ a spy. Alfred Morris added 76 rushing yards on 20 carries, allowing the Redskins to control both the pace and the scoreboard. We covered the futility of the Eagles offense elsewhere, but the Redskins defense also brought a strong effort off the bye.
About the only thing that went wrong for the Redskins was an injury for safety Brandon Meriweather. Meriweather was making his season debut thanks to a left knee injury and he didn’t return after hurting his right knee in the contest.
