Former Titans kicker Rob Bironas was drunk when he wrecked his SUV and died 13 days ago, a toxicology test has revealed.
Bironas’s blood-alcohol level was .218, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. That’s nearly three times the legal limit of .08.
There was also Valium in Bironas’s system, but likely not enough to impair driving.
Police had initially said there was no evidence of alcohol being to blame for the crash, and his wife said there were no problems at home before Bironas left the house on the Saturday night when he died. But witnesses described Bironas as angry, threatening, and seeming to want to purposely run other cars off the road.
The police investigation of the case is ongoing.
