A year ago in Washington, Robert Griffin III took a lot of hits in a preseason game, came out with an injury, and then was benched. Until Friday night, he hadn’t played any live-action football since.

On Friday night, Griffin took some hits again in his new role as starting quarterback of the Browns, but he didn’t mind that too much.

“I haven’t been hit in a long time, and I was telling coach and some of the guys, you don’t want to get hit, but it feels good to just be back playing football and it’s truly a blessing,” Griffin said after the game. “Going out there on the field, there’s no nerves or anything. It’s just excitement to be back out on the field playing the game that you love with great people. I’m excited about it and I can’t wait to get back to practice.”

Whether Griffin can avoid taking hits is one of the biggest questions facing the Browns this year. Griffin has often struggled to recognize and react to the pass rush, and if he can’t avoid getting hits, he’s not going to stay healthy. The Browns need Griffin to stay upright if they’re going to be able to say that the 25th time’s the charm.
