The early signs are not encouraging for Panthers defensive leader Jon Beason following his injury Sunday.

Coach Ron Rivera called the situation “dire” after Beason left the game on a cart. Beason underwent “minor” Achilles surgery a few weeks ago before quickly returning to the field.

PFT can report that Beason will undergo an MRI on his Achilles Monday. Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette said Beason would be out a “significant” amount of time.

Beason signed a huge contract extension in August. He’s one of the best middle linebackers in football and possibly Carolina’s best player.
