Former Giants running back Tiki Barber said he wasn’t particularly bothered by Giants fans booing him at his induction into the Giants’ ring of honor.
But Barber’s twin brother, Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber, was bothered by it.
“It reflects poorly on the Giants’ fans,” Ronde told Sirius NFL Radio, per the New York Post. “They were there to honor him for what he did on the football field and they let what he’s done post-football come into play. I think it’s unfortunate.”
Of the 30 members of the ring of honor, only Tiki was booed at Sunday’s induction ceremony. Ronde said he considered that disappointing, although he credited Tiki’s former teammate and fellow ring of honor inductee, Michael Strahan, for preventing it from getting worse.
“It shouldn’t have happened that way,” Ronde said. “I heard that Strahan gave him a hug and walked him off the field because it probably could have got ugly. It was supposed to be a joyous moment, and to have the reaction that they had for Tiki is a little bit unfortunate.”
