Russell Wilson: We’re resilient, never doubted what we could do this year

When the Broncos opened the season with five losses in their first six games, there were plenty of people who thought this year would wind up looking a lot like quarterback Russell Wilson’s first one in Denver.

The 2022 campaign ended with a 5-12 record and major questions about the direction of the franchise, but this year is playing out much differently. Sunday’s 29-12 win over the Browns was the fifth in a row for a Broncos team that is now thinking about the postseason.

While that might not have been what most people expected, Wilson said after Sunday’s win that he “never doubted” that the Broncos could get where they want to go this season. He pointed to the team’s ability to handle adversity as a key reason why they’ve been able to turn things around during their winning streak.

“We’re resilient,” Wilson said in his postgame press conference. “The best part about us is we’ve been resilient for all of these games. We’ve played some really great teams. Top-echelon teams, obviously, in the AFC. Kansas City, obviously, Buffalo on the road which is a tough environment. Cleveland has been great all year. It’s a great defense and everything else. I think the best thing about us, though, is it’s about us. It’s about us being together.”

The next test for the Broncos will be a three-game road trip that takes them to Houston, Los Angeles, and Detroit. If they keep it together through that stretch, Wilson won’t be the only one putting doubts about the team in the trash can.
