Adam Caplan reports that the Saints have agreed to terms on a three-year deal with outside linebacker Chris Chamberlain.

Chamberlain, 26, started 13 games last season, playing for new Saints defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo in St. Louis. Chamberlain recorded a career-most 81 tackles. He chipped in an additional two sacks, a forced fumble, and one interception.

Primarily a weak-side linebacker, Chamberlain’s addition could threaten Scott Shanle’s starting job and/or roster spot. Shanle’s base salary is only $1.05 million, but the Saints may want to get younger at the position.

They could do so effectively by playing Chamberlain over him.
