Though he’s still listed on the team’s online roster, a league source tells us that the Saints cut punter Steve Weatherford after Sunday’s loss to the Panthers. Weatherford averaged 35.7 yards on five punts in a 30-7 loss to the Panthers. The net was 30.2. It’s unknown whether he was released due to his punting or for other reasons. He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2006, and has been the Saints’ punter ever since. Weatherford’s biggest claim to fame came earlier this year, when he was spotted wearing a wristwatch during New Orleans’ game at Denver. Available candidates to replace Weatherford include veteran Todd Sauerbrun, who hasn’t gotten a sniff since emerging from a suspension a couple of weeks ago.
