SAINTS GET BRIEF REPRIEVE

Earlier in the day, Chris Mortensen of ESPN pointed out that the court decision to prevent the NFL from suspending Saints players Deuce McAllister and Will Smith created a mess for the team, since two of the players that have been added to the roster this week came from other franchises’ practice squads, requiring the Saints to keep them for at least three weeks. Per the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the Saints have received a brief reprieve. The league has given them a roster exemption through Monday for defensive ends Rob Ninkovich and Tearrius George; however, neither will be permitted to suit up on Sunday. Ninkovich was signed this week from Miami’s practice squad. George was signed from the Cowboys’ practice squad. On Monday, the Saints will have to shed two players, but they still won’t be able to dump Ninkovich and George for at least two more weeks.
