The Rams will be without veteran center Scott Wells the rest of the year, after he suffered a broken ankle in Sunday’s loss to the 49ers.
Rams coach Jeff Fisher said Wells suffered a fractured left fibula, and put his recovery time at four to six weeks, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com
Since the 5-7 Rams have only the most miniscule mathematical chance at the postseason, that means his season is over.
Wells only played seven games last season after coming over from the Packers on a four-year, $24 million contract. Of that total, $13 million was guaranteed over the first two years, meaning the Rams will have a decision to make this offseason on a player who will be 34 in Janaury.
Prior to last year’s injury problems, Wells was an extremely durable player, missing only six games in the previous seven years.
