Seahawks take 20-7 lead into halftime

Thomas Rawls

AP

The Seahawks have had plenty of problems this season, but the 49ers haven’t been much of one through six quarters of play this season.

Seattle beat the 49ers 20-3 on the road in their first meeting of the season and the rematch at home is going pretty much the same way. The Seahawks ran for 142 yards, Russell Wilson threw two touchdown passes and the defense has not fallen victim to Blaine Gabbert’s wiles on the way to a 20-7 halftime lead.

The Seahawks rushing attack has been spearheaded by Thomas Rawls with Marshawn Lynch inactive this week due to an abdominal injury. Rawls has 96 yards on 16 carries and scored a two-yard touchdown in the first half. Wilson added 35 rushing yards of his own and completed 12-of-13 passes for 122 yards. Both of his scores went to rookie Tyler Lockett.

There hasn’t been much flashy on defense for the Seahawks, but they didn’t need flash for much of the half. The 49ers had two first downs and 38 yards when they got the ball with under two minutes to go in the second quarter, but were able to drive against a soft Seahawks look for 92 yards and a Blaine Gabbert touchdown pass to Vance McDonald in nine plays before the half. It was a good ending note, but there’s a lot of work left to do if they’re going to end the day with the same record as the Seahawks.
