Shelton Quarles could be filling Doug Williams’ shoes in Tampa

Earlier this year, former Buccaneers quarterback Doug Williams left his job as pro personnel director in Tampa.

Now, another former Buc eventually could be climbing into the position.

According to PewterReport.com, one-time linebacker Shelton Quarles has taken on more duties following Williams’ departure. Per the report, G.M. Mark Dominik has decided not to attempt to replace Williams as director of pro personnel, and that Quarles could become the team’s coordinator of pro personnel.

Williams held the coordinator job before Dominik became G.M. Once Dominik landed in his current job, Williams swapped out “coordinator” for “director.”

If Quarles hopes to ever be a “director,” he may want to stop talking about how good it is not to have a layer of authority between Dominik and the scouts.

“We don’t have that buffer in between me as a pro scout to the G.M.,” Quarles said. “Where as when Doug was here you had one step in between. . . . At that time he was always the buffer to the G.M Now I have more of an interaction and a relationship with our general manager because you don’t have that in-between guy.”

Even if Quarles doesn’t become the director of pro personnel, the “coordinator” title likewise could make him into the buffer between Dominik and the pro scouts.

So, basically, Dominik and coach Raheem Morris aren’t the only guys in the building who may need to do a better job when it comes to watching what they say.
