SPAGNUOLO TARGETING COACHES FROM EAGLES AND GIANTS

Now that he’s been hired by the Rams, Steve Spagnuolo has to get to work assembling his staff. Word from Adam Schefter is that he’ll be looking at his two past employers for coaches to fill coordinator roles. Per Schefter, Spagnuolo would like to hire Eagles quarterback coach Pat Shurmur to be his offensive coordinator. Both men started working for the Eagles in 1999, and Shurmur, whose late uncle Fritz was a longtime NFL defensive coordinator, made the move from tight ends to quarterbacks in 2002. Former Eagle assistant John Harbaugh considered him for the Ravens offensive coordinator spot last season before hiring Cam Cameron. If he isn’t able to hire Shurmur, Spagnuolo may be interested in Eagles wide receiver coach David Culley. Neither Eagles assistant’s contract is up after the season, but Andy Reid said Shurmur was free to go to the Ravens a year ago if he got the job. On the other side of the ball, Schefter reports that Giants linebacker coach Bill Sheridan is Spagnuolo’s first choice. Sheridan coached at Notre Dame and Michigan before joining the Giants staff in 2005. He may be considered for Spagnuolo’s former role with the Giants, although the team is reportedly interested in Dom Capers and has former Rams defensive coordinator Peter Giunta on their staff.
