The Steelers brought back one of their own free agents Monday, keeping their special teams captain off the market.

The team announced that safety Robert Golden had agreed to terms on a new three-year contract. He would have been an unrestricted free agent Wednesday.

Golden originally made the team in 2012 as an undrafted free agent from Arizona, but has created a niche for himself on special teams, as the captain there the last two seasons.

He set career highs this year in defensive tackles and passes defensed, and got his first career interception.
