In 2008, Steelers punter Daniel Sepulveda tore the ACL in his right, non-kicking knee. It was the second time he tore the ligament, and he missed the entire season.
On Sunday night, it happened again.
The Steelers announced on their Facebook page that Sepulveda suffered the injury during a win over the Ravens. Though kicker Shaun Suisham took over the punting chores, Sepulveda continued to hold for placekicks. (It would have been hard for Suisham to substitute for Sepulveda in that specific capacity.)
Sepulveda had generated a career-best average of 45.5 yards per punt, and a career-high net of 39.1.
Last time around, Mitch Berger performed the punting duties for most of the season, including during the playoffs and Super Bowl XLIII. He’s currently available, if the Steelers are inclined to give him another shot.
